Paul Chryst knows good defense when he sees it. In his first three years at Wisconsin, he’s had some of the best defenses in the country.

So the Badgers’ head coach knows exactly what his offense is up against when they travel to Ann Arbor this weekend to take on Michigan. And it’s not just one player that Chryst is worried about, it’s the entire defense.

“They’ve got good players. They’re well coached. What’s fun is it’s team football,” Chryst said during the B1G coaches teleconference on Tuesday. “All 11 offense get to go up against and compete against all 11 on defense.

“It takes all 11 to make a play.”

Chryst was asked several times about individual players — primarily Devin Bush, Chase Winovich and Rashan Gary — and while he paid compliments to those guys, he kept reiterating that the whole unit is incredibly talented.

“Their whole defense is talented,” Chryst said. “I think anytime you face a defense that’s talented and well coached. I think they have a great confidence and knowledge — the players I’m talking about now — in their scheme. They play fast.

“And so, I think the strength of that defense is that they have a number of talented players. So you can’t focus (on one).”

The interesting matchup will be Wisconsin’s rushing attack — the best in the B1G — against Michigan’s run defense, which hasn’t allowed a single 100-yard rusher this season.

Saturday’s matchup is also important in the CFB Playoff picture, as both the Badgers and Wolverines will try to remain unbeaten in the B1G and avoid a second loss on the season.
