Wisconsin is coming off of one of the worst performances of the Paul Chryst era, but the Badgers’ head coach is confident his team will respond this weekend.

After a 38-13 loss to Michigan on Saturday, Wisconsin’s College Football Playoff hopes took a major hit. But the Badgers still control their own destiny in their pursuit of a third-straight division title and trip to Indianapolis.

On Thursday, Chryst met with the media to talk about his team’s mentality heading into this weekend’s game against Illinois. And the head coach has been pleased with how the players have responded after a tough loss.

“I’ve been proud of the way the guys have prepared this week,” Chryst said. “Certainly we’re not done. I think you can and should continue that preparation through today and tomorrow, but excited to play again.

“You want to play the perfect game and the games don’t go that way…That’s what’s awesome about sports. The responses, the lessons, that’s the takeaway. And I have liked the way guys have responded this week. Now we get to go out and play.”

The Badgers (4-2, 2-1 B1G) is a half game back in the B1G West, trailing only Northwestern (3-3, 3-1 B1G). Wisconsin also owns the tiebreaker with Iowa, which looks like the other contender in the West.
