Badgers head coach Paul Chryst has some good news about starting quarterback Graham Mertz and tight end Jake Ferguson.
Chryst spoke on his radio show Thursday evening and confirmed that both Mertz and Ferguson are full-go for Saturday’s matchup against Illinois.
#Badgers coach Paul Chryst on his radio show: reaffirms TE Jake Ferguson/QB Graham Mertz ready to go for Illinois: "We're never going to put someone out there that is at a risk of something."

Mertz was injured during Wisconsin’s loss to Michigan as he was knocked out of the game with a chest injury. Daxton Hill sacked Mertz early in the 3rd quarter and Mertz was visibly shaken up after that play.
Even though Mertz had to leave the game, he has still practiced each day this week which led Chryst to say that he’s ready to go.
As for Ferguson, he also suffered a chest injury during that contest against Michigan and didn’t return to the game either. He was also able to practice this week and Wisconsin will need both fully healthy if its 2-game losing streak is to end.
Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET.
