Paul Haynes brings a wealth of experience to Wisconsin after previous stints at Minnesota, Michigan State, Kent State and Ohio State.

Haynes on Monday met with reporters and explained that in terms of recruiting, “When you walk into every high school, they recognize that W. And it’s not that way everywhere.”

About his defensive approach, the cornerbacks coach added that stopping run is a priority, but “the games are won with explosive pass plays. That’s where it comes down to us.”

Haynes, who was on Minnesota’s staff the last 3 seasons, reacted to the rivalry and put it simply that, “We’ll get the axe back.”

With Haynes as co-defensive coordinator at Minnesota in 2022, the Gophers ranked seventh in the country in pass efficiency defense (108.5). UM also ranked No. 4 in the nation in scoring defense (13.8 ppg) and ninth in total defense (295.1 ypg). In 2021, Minnesota ranked eighth nationally in pass defense (181.2 ypg.).
