Jon Budmayr has spent the last six seasons on Wisconsin’s staff in some capacity, but he’s planning to make a change. The longtime Badgers assistant and former quarterback will get the opportunity to run the Colorado State offense.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg is reporting that Colorado State is expected to hire Budmayr to be the offensive coordinator. Budmayr has spent the last six seasons in Madison, where he’s been the quarterbacks coach (2018-20) and quality control assistant (2015-17).

Budmayr came to Wisconsin with head coach Paul Chryst. He had been a graduate assistant at Pitt when Chryst was the head coach.

Budmayr was also a member of the Wisconsin football team as a quarterback under head coach Bret Bielema, who is now the leader at Illinois. The opportunity at Colorado State will be Budmayr’s first to be an offensive coordinator at the FBS level.

Colorado State played just four games during the 2020 season, finishing with a 1-3 record. Steve Addazio is entering his second season as the head coach of the Rams.
