Barry Alvarez is going to be receiving a pretty nice check from the University of Wisconsin, and it’s because he didn’t take much time for vacation during his run as the school’s athletic director.

According to Todd Milewski of Madison.com, Alvarez had 1,272 hours of unused vacation time when he retired as Wisconsin’s athletic director. That equates to about 31 weeks.

Clearly Alvarez took the phrase, “no days off” quite literally during his time at Wisconsin.

So what’s that mean in terms of payout for the longtime Badgers administrator? He’ll receive a one-time lump sum of $301,133, minus withholdings. That’s a pretty good check to walk out of the building with for Alvarez.

In total, Alvarez will receive just over $1.18 million from the school from his additional compensation agreement with the UW Foundation and Alumni Association.

Alvarez’s last day as the athletic director at Wisconsin was June 30. He was succeeded by former deputy AD Chris McIntosh.
