Recruiting is what it is.

Some programs go for the ultra-talented, sure-fire, eventual NFL prospects. Others, like Wisconsin, will get one or two guys like that, that are extremely highly-regarded, but fill out the rest of its class with recruits that will fit the system perfectly.

On Thursday, it was announced that two commits from the Badgers’ Class of 2019 won Gatorade Player of the Year awards. These guys have next-level ability.

Graham Mertz, a QB from Kansas, is regarded as a 4-star prospect and the No. 4 overall pro-style QB in his class. Mertz won Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Kansas.

Leo Chanel, an athlete from Wisconsin, plays both RB and LB. He is regarded as a 3-star prospect, but won Wisconsin’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

The Badgers’ 2019 class ranks No. 28 nationally and No. 7 in the B1G.
