Wisconsin reportedly hosting transfer QB from ACC program, multi-year starter
Tyler Van Dyke, a 4-year member of the Miami football program, entered the transfer portal when it opened on Monday. The quarterback has 1 year of eligibility remaining — could he be spending it in the B1G?
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Saturday morning, Van Dyke will visit Wisconsin over the weekend. The Badgers, a 7-5 team in 2023, will wrap up Luke Fickell’s 1st season in the ReliaQuest Bowl vs. LSU on Jan. 1.
Van Dyke in 2023 threw for 2,703 yards and 19 touchdowns vs. 12 interceptions in 2023. He’s passed for 7,469 yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 picks for his career.
The Badgers are looking for a QB to replace Tanner Mordecai, who transferred from SMU to Madison ahead of the 2023 campaign. He played in 9 games due to injury, recording just 6 touchdowns and 4 INTs to go along with his 1,688 yards. He also ran 77 times for 305 yards and 4 TDs.
Braedyn Locke served as Mordecai’s backup when injured, playing in 5 games and throwing for 777 yards and 5 TDs. Heading into 2024, though, the Badgers are on the lookout for a more experienced player at QB1 with Mordecai’s eligibility up after this season, and Van Dyke certainly fits the bill.
