WATCH: Kirk Herbstreit praises Paul Chryst, says he's one of the 'best kept secrets' in CFB
Wisconsin seems to fly under the radar just about every season. Somehow, the Badgers manage to win 10 games on a yearly basis and they’re rarely considered a national championship contender.
But Kirk Herbstreit has taken notice of the job Paul Chryst has done through his first three seasons in Madison. He believes that the Badgers head coach is one of the best kept secrets in college football.
“I think he’s one of the best kept secrets in college football,” Herbstreit said of Chryst. “He’s kind of stuck to his guns about still being a coach that believes in physicality, a big, strong offensive line, being able to run the football.
“Sometimes I think great offensive minds like Paul Chryst get overlooked, which is, I’m sure, exactly how he likes it. I really respect him and think he’s one of the best coaches in the country.”
Chryst has done a sensational job at Wisconsin since arriving in 2015. The Badgers are 38-8 with a 24-4 mark in B1G play. He’s led his team to two B1G Championship Game appearances and a 3-0 record in bowl games.
Wisconsin has not won fewer than 10 games since 2015.
“I’ve always said if my kids were to go on and play college football, there’s about two or three or four coaches that I’d really love for them to go and play for. Paul Chryst would be one of them,” Herbstreit said. “It’s because of how he treats his players. Win or lose, you know what kind of guy you’re gonna get and how he’s gonna treat those kids. Just a class act.”
Chryst will have another chance to prove himself this weekend as No. 15 Wisconsin travels to No. 12 Michigan in a B1G showdown.
