Mark Richt has earned a reputation as one of the “nice guys” in college football. But the Miami head coach ditched that moniker in Saturday night’s Orange Bowl game after officials missed a holding call on Wisconsin’s offensive line.

Late in the second quarter, Richt was livid was after one of his players appeared to be held while in pursuit of Badgers quarterback Alex Hornibrook. The no-call led to an explosion unlike anything we’ve ever seen out of the Hurricanes head man.

Richt stormed onto the field, screamed in the face of an official, and then grabbed a referee’s arm during his meltdown. Below is the video:

That’s not the kind of reaction you see out of Richt very often, so he must have believed the missed call was pretty egregious.

Richt was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Badgers capitalized after the penalty, scoring a touchdown to close out the half and taking a 24-14 lead into the locker room.

This might be the only time in his career Richt isn’t viewed as college football’s nice guy.
