Barry Alvarez had a huge smile on his face Friday night, and not just because the Badgers posted an impressive win over Utah State in the season opener.
No, that big grin was for personal reasons. The Wisconsin athletic director got to watch his grandson, redshirt senior Joe Ferguson, notch his first career interception and take it 99 yards for a touchdown.
The interception came late in the fourth quarter with the game well in-hand. But that didn’t make the moment any less special.
This game was 10-0 at one point.

Ferguson had played in 44 games, recording 31 tackles. He’s also been an Academic All-B1G selection every year of his career.
The touchdown gave Wisconsin a 52-10 advantage.
