Wisconsin AD Chris McIntosh extended classy gesture to Paul Chryst, per report
Chris McIntosh let Paul Chryst go on Sunday after a disappointing 2-3 start. Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel posted about how McIntosh let Chryst tell his players about it.
McIntosh let Chryst break the news to his players face to face. Chryst has been with the program since December of 2014. This is a very kind gesture since the news would definitely have been difficult to hear if it wasn’t from anyone other than Chryst.
Chryst went 67-26 as Wisconsin’s HC. The 34-10 loss to Bret Bielema’s Illinois team on Saturday might have been the last straw.
At the end of the day, the distance between the top teams in the conference and Wisconsin might have also been one of the deciding factors. Wisconsin last won B1G titles under Bielema in 2010, 2011, and 2012. The last time that the Badgers won the B1G West was in 2019.
Jim Leonhard has been named the team’s interim HC moving forward. Wisconsin plays Northwestern next on Oct. 8.
Can’t stress how difficult it is these days for a coach to be allowed to break the news to his players. Nice move by #Badgers AD Chris McIntosh to let Chryst look his players in the eye and tell them, face to face. https://t.co/DIEqiTDDBe
