Wisconsin is adding to its off-field staff.

Bruce Feldman reported Friday that Rhode Island defensive coordinator Jack Cooper is joining Luke Fickell’s staff as a senior defensive analyst.

Cooper confirmed the news by updating the photos and bio on his Twitter account.

Cooper heads to Madison after 3 seasons at Rhode Island, an FCS program. He joined the program in February 2020 as defensive coordinator.

The Rhode Island defense had a spectacular season in 2021, Cooper’s second season with the program. The Rams ranked in the Top 50 in points allowed per game (25.36/49th); yards allowed per play (5.17/35th), yards allowed per pass attempt (6.58/29th); yards allowed per pass completion (11.64/40th); defensive pass efficiency (119.39/28th); and sacks per game (2.45/33rd) in 2021.

Cooper has some B1G familiarity as a former defensive quality control staffer at Nebraska for the 2018 and ’19 seasons under Scott Frost.
