Wisconsin officially announced the hiring of Devon Spalding to be the program’s next running backs coach on Friday evening.

Spalding joins the Badgers after spending the last 3 seasons at Youngstown State.

Here’s Wisconsin’s announcement:

Spalding is credited with coaching and developing former Youngstown State star Jaleel McLaughlin, who set the all-time rushing record for all of college football this past season. He rushed for 8,166 yards in his career.

Spalding also has ties to new Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell. He was a graduate assistant under Fickell at Cincinnati in 2019.

As a player, Spalding played both running back and receiver at Central Michigan from 2014-18. He finished his collegiate career with 1,450 rushing yards and 609 receiving yards. He also scored 14 total touchdowns during his time at Central Michigan.

He replaced former Wisconsin running backs coach Al Johnson, who was with the Badgers in that role for 1 season.

Led by Braelon Allen, Wisconsin is expected to have a dynamic rushing attack in 2023.
