Wisconsin can chalk up a victory over rivals Iowa and Minnesota on the recruiting trail this week. According to multiple reports, the Badgers have landed a pledge from 3-star linebacker Jake Ratzlaff.

Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported on Monday that Ratzlaff has given his verbal pledge to the Badgers. He was considering Iowa State, along with Iowa and Minnesota.

Ratzlaff, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker, is a Minnesota native and ranks as the No. 5 overall player from the state. He’s also listed as the nation’s No. 44 outside backer and ranks No. 644 regardless of position, per 247Sports.

Linebacker is a position Wisconsin has recruited heavily during this cycle, landing five commitments in the 2021 class. Ratzlaff also becomes the second player out of the state of Minnesota to commit to the Badgers.

Ratzlaff’s story is unique, as he was initially committed to playing hockey for the Golden Gophers. So, not only did he switch sports, he’s also flipped schools over the course of a few years.

Wisconsin is now up to 21 verbal commitments for the 2021 recruiting class. The Badgers’ class ranks No. 3 in the B1G and sits at No. 16 nationally.

Paul Chryst and his staff appear to be in really good shape heading into the Early Signing Period. The Badgers are 2-1 on the 2020 season.
