Wisconsin center Chris Vogt launches fundraiser for Kentucky hometown hit by tornado
Wisconsin was blown out by Ohio State in basketball action Saturday. Badgers center Chris Vogt came off the bench with 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 blocks in a losing effort, but his thoughts were elsewhere shortly after the game ended.
Vogt’s hometown of Mayfield, Kentucky was rocked by storms Friday evening with a devastating tornado hitting the town. The death toll for the state has reached 70 with estimates expecting that number to rise. A local candle factory was among the facilities wiped out by the storm with more than 100 workers on-site at the time of the storm.
Trying to do his part, Vogt announced he was starting a fundraiser with the proceeds going to his hometown:
“A record tornado recently hit my hometown of Mayfield, Ky,” wrote Vogt in a note on Twitter. “I am raising money to help the victims. Every donation and share helps. Thank you and God bless.”
