Wisconsin has lost defensive back Collin Wilder in the game against Purdue after Wilder was called for targeting.
The hit came on Purdue TE Brycen Hopkins. Hopkins was running a crossing route over the middle of the field. The throw was low and Hopkins was unable to bring it in.
Unfortunately, the low throw meant Hopkins was bent low trying to scoop up the ball. As he was standing up, Wilder delivered the hit.

The hit did not look particularly flagrant or dirty by Wilder. Had Hopkins been standing up like normal, the hit would have likely been clean. However, the contact was definitely helmet-to-helmet.

With review determining the call as targeting, Wilder will also miss the first half of next weekend’s game against Minnesota. That is an especially big blow as the Badgers will likely be playing for the B1G West when they face the Gophers.
