Wisconsin has dismissed running back Jalen Berger from the team, coach Paul Chryst announced on Sunday afternoon.

No reason was given for this decision, but Berger did not play in Wisconsin’s 24-0 win over Illinois on Saturday.

Berger is a redshirt freshman and had shown promise as part of Wisconsin’s running back rotation. He carried the ball 84 times for 389 yards and 3 touchdowns across 7 games in his Badgers career.

He was a key member of Wisconsin’s 2020 recruiting class. He was a 4-star prospect and the No. 15 running back in the country for that class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Berger’s loss certainly hurts Wisconsin’s depth moving forward at running back, but the Badgers still have plenty of talent there. Chez Mellusi and Braelon Allen each went over 100 yards and scored a touchdown in Wisconsin’s win over Illinois in Week 6.

Wisconsin is 2-3 this season and hosts Army in Week 7.
