Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard just picked up another potential playmaker to add to the Badgers secondary.

The commitment came Sunday afternoon from Austin Brown. Brown is a three-star prospect out of Johnston City, Illinois for the class of 2022, making his pledge to the Badgers via Instagram Live on July 4.

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 195 lbs., Brown has drawn a four-star rating from 247 Sports. However, the composite rankings have Brown as a three-star prospect, the No. 28 safety nationally, and the No. 6 player out of Illinois for the cycle.

In the end, Brown went with Wisconsin over Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan, and Boston College. He was a two-way player as a junior and made an impact all over the field defensively. Brown finished the season with 36 tackles, two forced fumbles, two tackles for loss, and two passes defended.
Brown becomes the second-highest-rated commit for Wisconsin’s 2022 class behind four-star OT Joe Brunner. The Badgers now have 11 total commitments for their class.
