Wisconsin football is heading toward a season opener against Illinois State in Week 1. On Monday, the Badgers released their full depth chart and status report for the opener.

Unsurprisingly, the Badgers are rolling with Graham Mertz and Braelon Allen as starters at quarterback and running back. Chimere Dike and redshirt freshman Skyler Bell are the starters listed at receiver.

On the defensive side of the ball, UCLA transfer Jay Shaw steps into a starting cornerback with John Torchio landing a starting safety spot. Sophomore Jordan Turner also steps into an inside linebacker role as a starter to open the season.

Unfortunately for the Badgers, Tanor Bortoline (right leg) and tight end Cam Large (right leg) are both on the injured list and officially ruled out for Week 1. Bortolini started 5 games for the offensive line in 2021 while Large was hoping to be one of the pieces utilized at TE to replace Jake Ferguson.

It was also reported Monday that backup QB Chase Wolf was injured in practice and is expected to be out indefinitely. If Wolf is unable to return to the field soon, it leaves the Badgers dangerously thin at the QB position behind starter Graham Mertz.

The Badgers open the season this Saturday vs. Illinois State.
