Battling the Illinois Fighting Illini in a B1G West game at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Wisconsin Badgers junior running back Jonathan Taylor reached a career milestone by surpassing 5,000 yards rushing.

Entering the game with 4,996 yards, Taylor reached the mark on his first carry of the game with a six-yard scamper.

The latest in a long line of accomplishments for the Heisman Trophy candidate, Taylor earned some praise from Badgers legend Ron Dayne on Twitter:

Starring for Wisconsin from 1996-99, Dayne is the all-time FBS rushing leader with 7,125 yards. Winning the 1999 Heisman Trophy, he rushed for over 2,000 yards during his final season in Madison. Following his graduation, Dayne played eight seasons in the National Football League with the New York Giants (2000-04), Denver Broncos (2005) and Houston Texans (2006-07).

Adding a five-yard touchdown in the third quarter of Saturday’s game, Taylor has now recorded at least one rushing touchdown in eight straight games.

No. 6 Wisconsin (6-0) at Illinois (2-4) is currently airing on BTN.
