Wisconsin fans may still be feeling the sting of a 44-25 loss to Nebraska on Saturday, but at least they have a recruiting win to cheer about now.

The Badgers landed a commitment from 4-star quarterback Carter Smith out of Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday.

Smith was a former Michigan commit, but the assumption is that the notable pledge from 5-star quarterback Bryce Underwood to play for the Wolverines on Thursday caused Smith to look elsewhere.

Smith also held offers from the likes of Ole Miss, Miami, Florida, Texas A&M, Penn State and Louisville.

His commitment is a boost for a program that certainly needs it. After firing Phil Longo earlier this season following the struggles of his air raid attack in Madison, the Badger offense has continued to be an up-and-down entity.

Sophomore quarterback Braedyn Locke has completed just 56.4% of his passes for 1,806 yards this season, and he’s thrown 12 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions.

Smith figures to at least compete for the starting job upon his arrival, because the Wisconsin program is looking for any form of spark it can get from the quarterback position at this point.
