Nick Herbig finished atop Wisconsin’s leaderboard in sacks with 9.0 in 2021, a number that ranked 4th in the B1G. He’s been vocal about his relationship with T.J. Watt, a Badger great that has become one of the most feared defenders in the NFL.

Herbig is looking to carve a path of his own, though. His pass rush rating in 2021 was higher than that of Watt and another Badger standout in Joe Schobert. And with 9.0 sacks in 2021, it’s not out of the question that the junior, who received a first-team All-B1G nod from Phil Steele and should be an attractive NFL Draft prospect in 2023, can achieve double-digits in the upcoming campaign.

But how high is the ceiling for Herbig? When asked by Rivals.com’s Seamus Rohrer of his personal goal in 2022, he set quite the number: 20.

For reference, the NCAA record is 24, set in 2002. The B1G record was set more recently: 16.5, courtesy of Ohio State’s Chase Young in 2019. Zack Baun has the program record of 12.5, also set in 2019.

Can Herbig, indeed, get to 20 sacks? We’ll have to wait and find out.
