Wisconsin is going to be down a quarterback to the transfer portal after ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that freshman passer Mabrey Mettauer has made his intentions to pursue a change of scenery clear. He is just one of many players to join the exodus away from Wisconsin.

It is expected that Mettauer will be sought-after with some of the attention he received when he was a recruit, receiving offers from a number of prestigious programs, including FSU, LSU, Miami and Ole Miss.

What exactly he can do at the college level still largely remains to be seen after he saw the field in just one game this season, attempting and completing a single pass for 2 yards in the 52-6 blowout win over the Purdue Boilermakers back in October. He also carried the ball once for 2 yards in the same contest.

Mettauer was originally listed by the 247Sports Composite as a 3-star recruit out of The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas. He was also the No. 52 overall quarterback in the 2024 class and came in as the No. 148 overall prospect in the state of Texas for the same cycle.

It will be interesting to watch where Mettauer lands next with multiple quarterbacks in the portal seeking their next destination.
