The two-deep is out for Wisconsin.

Over the weekend, the Badgers released their depth chart for the season-opening contest against Illinois — A B1G West showdown that will open the season for the conference. Wisconsin and Illinois are scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff on Friday, Oct. 23, the first game of the B1G season.

The most noteworthy item from the depth chart release is that redshirt freshman Graham Mertz will be the starting quarterback for the Badgers to open the year. He replaces Jack Coan, who sustained a foot injury during fall practice.

Here’s a look at Wisconsin’s depth chart for Week 1:

Wisconsin is looking to keep its spot atop the B1G West this season. Last year, the Badgers finished the year by competing in the B1G Championship Game and Rose Bowl with a 10-4 record.

The Badgers are also looking for revenge on Friday night. Last year, Illinois upset Wisconsin with a last-second field goal in Champaign.
