Wisconsin will be without one of its top defensive players for the next two weeks.

Saturday morning, Badgers starting linebacker Leo Chenal announced on Instagram that he tested positive for COVID-19. He will miss the season opener against Penn State and will also be out for next week’s nonconference matchup vs. Eastern Michigan.

“To all my friends and family, I have tested positive for Covid and will miss the next 2 games,” Chenal wrote on Instagram. “That aside, I am excited to see the boys kill it today!”

Chenal was the second-leading tackler for the Badgers during the 2020 campaign, racking up 46 stops in 7 games. He was also credited with 6 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception during a 4-3 season.

The combination of Chenal and Jack Sanborn is considered to be one of the top linebacker duos in the B1G. His absence is a huge blow for Wisconsin’s defense, which is typically at the top of the league.

Wisconsin’s season-opening matchup against Penn State looks much, much tougher now.
