Wisconsin starting safety declares for 2021 NFL Draft

One of the B1G’s better defensive backs has declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Monday afternoon, Wisconsin safety Eric Burrell announced on Twitter that his time in Madison has come to an end and that he will pursue a career in the NFL. His decision comes after spending the last five years with the Badgers.

Burrell is passing on the opportunity to utilize a sixth-year of eligibility in 2021 to get a start on his professional career. Below is the tweet the defensive back sent out on Monday afternoon to make his announcement:

Burrell appeared in 48 career games for the Badgers and piled up 126 tackles over the last four seasons. He was responsible for 16 passes defended, 5 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 sacks in his career.

This past season, Burrell played in all 7 contests for the Badgers this year with 23 tackles, including a pair of stops for loss. He is also credited with 3 passes defended and an interception.

Wisconsin closed out the 2020 season with a 42-28 victory in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl over Wake Forest. The Badgers were 4-3 this past year, winning its final two games.
