It’s that time of year where players and coaches start scanning the transfer portal. Teams look to see if they can bring in a player to help plug a hole or strengthen a weakness. Players look for a better situation.

In the Big Ten, there’s a report that Wisconsin will look to add to its quarterback room at the end of the season via the transfer portal in the hopes of bringing in someone to challenge starter Graham Mertz, according to 247sports.

“In Big Ten country, 247Sports is hearing that Wisconsin will explore bringing in a quarterback to compete with starter Graham Mertz, who struggled at times this year and hasn’t produced like he was expected to,” said Clint Brewster of 247sports.com.

Mertz this season for the Badgers has been pedestrian at best under center. He is 107-of-190 for a 56.3% completion rate, throwing for 1,289 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.

Here are some names that Wisconsin could look at if they do indeed go the transfer portal route.

“Some of the highest-rated quarterbacks currently in the portal include Myles Brennan (LSU), Jacob Zeno (Baylor), Harrison Bailey (Tennessee) and Chubba Purdy (Florida State),” said Brewster. “A veteran like Brennan would make a lot of sense if he felt confident in winning that QB battle.”

Mertz and the Badgers take on Northwestern at noon ET on ESPN2 this Saturday as they look to stay in front of the Big Ten West divisional race.
