Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst confirmed on Thursday that wide receivers George Rushing and Jazz Peavy are not presently with the team “for different reasons.” Both players have missed significant time this season.

During a meeting with the media, Chryst said that both players had different things going on in their lives that have kept them away from the team. He said that there was a conclusion that it was best if both players took “some time away from football.”

“There’s a lot going on right now in these guys’ lives,” Chryst said. “All that matters is they are doing all right. That was kind of decided for both to help them navigate everything.

“Kind of decided for both they should take some time away from football.”

Peavy played in the first five games of the season for the Badgers but battled a leg injury as well as personal issues. He was the team’s leading receiver last year, catching 43 passes for 635 yards and five touchdowns. Peavy has had just 55 yards on five receptions this season.

Rushing has not stepped on the field for Wisconsin this season. He’s caught 18 passes for 208 yards during his career in Madison.

Both players are seniors and will miss Senior Day activities this Saturday as the Badgers host Michigan. Chryst did not say whether the two players would return this year.
