Xavier Restrepo is putting together a solid season so far with the Miami Hurricanes, hauling 14 receptions for 263 yards and 4 touchdowns.

But Restrepo spent plenty of time playing with former Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke — who transferred to Wisconsin this offseason — and suffered a season-ending injury during Saturday’s home game against Alabama. Multiple outlets reported Van Dyke suffered a full tear to his ACL, which means his 2024 season is now over.

Restrepo met with the media on Wednesday and said that he reached out to his former QB after hearing about the injury.

“Just since we’re not teammates doesn’t make him any less of a brother to me,” the Miami WR said.

This marks the second consecutive season in which Wisconsin will be without its starting QB for a significant period of the season. Tanner Mordecai — who started at QB for the Badgers last season —broke his right hand during the first half against Iowa and missed the remainder of that game and the following 3 games.

Wisconsin will now turn to redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke as the starting QB. Locke completed 13-of-26 passing attempts for 125 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Alabama but did get some experience last year for the Badgers. He finished the 2023 campaign completing 76 of his 152 passing attempts for 777 yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception.

Losing Van Dyke is far from ideal for the Badgers, but it’s refreshing to see one of his former teammates show genuine concern after he went down with a devastating injury.
