Pat Fitzgerald and company continue to bring in commitments during what has been a busy day for the Wildcats.

This time, the commitment came from Octavian Smith Jr., a 6-foot-1 and 170 lbs. athlete out of Burtonsville, Maryland. Smith is rated by 247 Sports as a three-star prospect and chose Northwestern over offers from Air Force, Army, Duke, Maryland, and Pittsburgh, among others.

Smith has played on both sides of the ball in high school as both a quarterback and a defensive back. The commitment of Smith brings Northwestern up to nine commits for the 2022 recruiting class. That group is currently rated as the 38th overall class nationally for the cycle.

Smith’s commitment is also the third for the Wildcats on Wednesday. The first one of the day came from Denis Jaquez, a three-star defensive lineman out of New Jersey. After that, Robert Fitzgerald, a three-star defensive back out of Texas, also announced his commitment.
