247Sports has Fitzgerald listed as the nation’s No. 63 safety of the 2022 class and is one of the Top 150 overall prospects out of Texas. Other Power 5 programs to offer the DB include Duke, Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Pitt, TCU, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Washington State.
Fitzgerald played all over the field at Jesuit High School during the 2020 season, playing primarily safety but also getting looks at linebacker, wildcat quarterback and punt returner. He’ll bring versatility with him to Evanston.
Fitzgerald was credited with 81 tackles, 6 pass break-ups and 2 interceptions during the 2020 campaign and was named the Texas Distrcit 7-6A Defensive MVP for the year.
Northwestern is now up to eight commitments in the 2022 class, ranking No. 9 in the B1G and No. 37 nationally, per 247Sports. Fitzgerald is the second player out of Texas to commit, joining Frisco safety Devin Turner, who committed on Monday.
