July 4 has become one of the biggest days on the recruiting calendar, and Penn State had one of the best showings in the entire country this year.

The Nittany Lions picked up three commitments on Independence Day, driving their current total to 17.

Penn State got commitments from Tyrese Fearbry and Zane Durant early in the afternoon, but added another big one in the evening. The third commitment came from 3-star defensive lineman Kaleb Artis.

Here’s his announcement:

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Artis is the No. 63 defensive lineman and the No. 430 overall player in the country for the class of 2022. The service also ranks him as a 3-star prospect.

Artis had offers from Auburn, Florida State and Virginia, amongst others.

With these additions, Penn State’s class is now ranked No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Nittany Lions started the day with the No. 8 class in the country, per 247Sports. Ohio State currently has the nation’s top-ranked class in 2022.

Players will be able to officially sign with their programs in December during the Early Signing Period.
