Former Minnesota WR Rashod Bateman will miss significant time with groin injury

Tuesday was a scary day at Ravens training camp as first-round pick Rashod Bateman suffered an injury during a practice.
The first reports out of Baltimore’s camp was that the injury wasn’t as severe as first thought, giving Ravens fans and the team some sign of hope.
Well, it turns out the injury isn’t season-ending but not as minor as some hoped. Baltimore coach John Harbaugh announced Wednesday that Bateman, a former Gopher standout wide receiver, will miss “a number of weeks” due to the injury suffered Tuesday.

The injury happened during a practice Tuesday morning when Bateman was running a slant route. He pulled up limping after trying to attempt the route and went off to the locker room. Original tests revealed no structural damage, just some damage to the soft tissue. Despite the tough prognosis, Bateman expressed gratitude to everyone around him via Instagram following the announcement of his injury.

The Ravens selected Bateman with the 27th pick in this spring’s NFL Draft. The Tifton, Georgia, native played three seasons in Minneapolis. His best came in 2019 as the Gophers had one of their best seasons in recent memory. Playing alongside now-Super Bowl champion Tyler Johnson, Bateman caught 60 passes for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With the Ravens not having a myriad of strong options at wide receiver, Bateman appeared to be a guy who would be used early and often by Baltimore and quarterback Lamar Jackson. However, there’s a chance that the debut of the Bateman-Jackson connection may be delayed.
