It appears that Michigan has reportedly committed a similar infraction that has Nebraska under an NCAA investigation.

A Michigan staffer strayed away from the NCAA rule, according to the Detroit Free Press. Ryan Osborn is listed as an analyst but allegedly has been coaching as well, which is a violation.

Defender Taylor Upshaw revealed on April 5 that Osborn was leading the defensive line instead of coach Shaun Nua during a stretch of practice. An anonymous Michigan edge player said to the Detroit Free Press back in May that Osborn assisted him with his footwork and showed them a new way to “flip our hips.”

This comes despite the NCAA book not allowing “technical or tactical instruction … to a student-athlete at any time” and analysts being “prohibited from participating … in on-field activities.”

Nebraska is under investigation from the NCAA for having too many analysts working in coaching roles at practice and in games. It appears the Michigan would’ve violated similar rules.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh deflected blame away from Osborn.

“It’s not Ryan’s fault,” Harbaugh said via the Detroit Free Press. “He’s a coach. He wants to coach, he wants to talk.”

Michigan kicks off the season on Sept. 4 with a home contest vs. Western Michigan (12 p.m. EST/ESPN).
