Justin Fields continues to prove himself as the ultimate teammate. Even though he’s battling Andy Dalton to be Chicago’s starting quarterback, he has nothing but support and respect for the veteran.

After the Bears selected Fields in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, there’s been plenty of calls for head coach Matt Nagy to start the rookie in Week 1 of the regular season. That doesn’t sound like it will be the case, with Nagy confirming that Dalton is still the No. 1 guy entering the season.

During Saturday’s preseason game between the Bears and Bills, fans chanted Fields’ name while Dalton was taking snaps. The rookie quarterback had a pretty stern message for Chicago after that, calling it “disrespectful.”

“Fans need to realize that we are on the same team,” Fields said, per Bears YouTube. “Cheer for who’s out there playing on the field.”

Dalton finished Saturday’s game completing 11-of-17 passes for 146 yards with a touchdown and interception. Fields was 9-of-19 for 80 yards and also carried the ball 4 times for 46 yards.

Buffalo defeated Chicago 41-15.

Chicago has one preseason game left on the schedule, playing Tennessee on Saturday. That will be Fields’ final opportunity to show off his skill before the regular season gets underway.
