No one around Lincoln is happy with how Nebraska played on Saturday against Illinois and that definitely includes offensive lineman Cameron Jurgens.

He sounded off after the Cornhuskers lost 30-22 to the Fighting Illini about how talk is cheap at this point and that Nebraska needs to start getting results.

Jurgens’ point about the running game is pretty valid as none of the Cornhuskers running backs did a thing during this game. Their leading rusher outside of quarterback Adrian Martinez (111 yards) was Gabe Ervin Jr. He finished the game with only 12 carries for 33 yards, which comes out to an average carry of 2.8 yards.

The backs behind Ervin Jr. didn’t do much better as the combination of Rahmir Johnson, Markese Stepp, and Samori Toure combined for only 30 yards rushing.

Outside of the failed rushing attack, the Cornhuskers will also have to cut down on turnovers going forward as Martinez’s fumble was a big momentum-swinger during the game.

Nebraska will have their home-opener next Saturday against Fordham at Noon ET.
