It didn’t take long for Justin Hilliard to find a new NFL team.

Just two days after he was waived by the San Francisco 49ers, Hilliard was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants.

Hilliard, a former five-star linebacker recruit, was one of Ohio State’s captains last season and had eight or more sacks in each of his last three games as a Buckeye. In his 50 games over his career in Columbus, he had 84 tackles and two interceptions.

The 49ers signed Hilliard as an undrafted free agent and led the team with 18 tackles in the preseason — including nine solo tackles.

One of Hilliard’s old teammates, defensive back Jordan Fuller, was named a team captain for the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week.

The Giants open the 2021 season Sept. 12 against the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. ET.
