Saquon Barkley left Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury, but it sounds like he may have avoided a long-term ailment.

In the game against Dallas, Barkley tweaked his ankle by stepping on the foot of a Cowboys defender. It was a purely freak incident but left Barkley’s ankle with some ugly swelling as he left the game.

Fortunately, the injury is not as serious as it initially appeared, per a Monday report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport:

“He suffered a low-ankle sprain. It looked bad, his ankle blew up on the sideline,” said Rapoport. “We saw a really good close-up angle of it. However, after getting the MRI and the x-ray, it is definitely not as bad as initially feared.

“I am told he is expected to be out this week and has an outside shot at next week. So probably a one-two week injury for Barkley.”

That would definitely be a good sign for Barkley if he is able to come back quickly. He had started to find his groove with touchdowns in back-to-back weeks entering Sunday’s game against Dallas.
