Aidan Hutchinson addresses facing ex-Wolverine Ben VanSumeren as a Spartan

When Michigan faces Michigan State this weekend, the Wolverines will see one familiar face on the other side of the football.
Ben VanSumeren is a player who started his career as a member of Michigan’s 2018 recruiting class. He started his career as an offensive player but transitioned to linebacker in 2020.
After last season, VanSumeren transferred out of Ann Arbor, landing with Mel Tucker and Michigan State. So far as a Spartan, he has 7 tackles with a season-high of 3 coming early in the year against Youngstown State.

On Tuesday, Aidan Hutchinson addressed what it will be like to face his former teammate – and former roommate. Hutchinson did admit the transfer was a little weird but he stopped short of providing bulletin board material to the Spartans.
Angelique Chengelis with the Detroit News shared Hutchinson’s comments:
Asked Aidan Hutchinson about his then-roommate Ben VanSumeren transferring to MSU “it was a little weird.” He then added, being careful how he worded this: “Hopefully on Saturday, we will get the win, so he can feel bad that he transferred.”
