A lot of the Heisman chatter entering Week 12 has centered around Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III, but C.J. Stroud may have just shifted the race in Columbus.
Facing the Spartans, Stroud and the Buckeyes started hot, scoring early and often at home. It started with a nearly perfect first quarter as Stroud accounted for a lone incompletion, more than 200 yards pass, and 3 touchdowns.
It did not slow down in the second quarter while Ohio State rolled to a 49-o halftime lead. Not counting the end of half kneel down, the Buckeyes scored 7 touchdowns on 7 possessions with Stroud hitting some program records in the process.
Stroud set the record for consecutive completions with 17. He even started the game 20-for-21 through the air. Stroud has also tied the single-game record for passing touchdowns with 6 in the first half. Kenny Guyton, J.T. Barrett, Dwayne Haskins, and Justin Fields also hold the mark.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a new school record for @CJ7STROUD: 17 consecutive completions, breaking J.T. Barrett (2017) and Justin Fields’ (2020) school mark. So far today Stroud is 20 of 21 for 294 yards and four touchdowns.
