Emoni Bates is in the transfer portal and recently cut his list down to 6 schools, including Juwan Howard’s Michigan program. Unfortunately, it does not look like the Wolverines are seriously interested in Bates.

According to a report from Andrew Kahn with MLive.com, Michigan is “not seriously interested” in the transferring forward. That is per a source at Michigan.

Kahn went on to point out that available scholarships are one potential roadblock to Bates. After adding Jaelin Llewellyn out of Princeton, the Wolverines do not have a scholarship open. If one of Moussa Diabate or Caleb Houstan remained in the NBA Draft, that would open a slot on the roster.

It will be interesting to see what transpires, both in terms of Diabate and Houstan and their draft decisions and whether or not any interest from the Wolverines picks up in regards to Bates. For now, Bates’ top 6 schools are Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Arkansas, Seton Hall, DePaul and Louisville.
