Emoni Bates is considering a return to his home state to play in the Big Ten. The Memphis transfer and former 5-star recruit has reportedly trimmed his list of possible transfer destinations, with Michigan still in the mix.

Bates entered the transfer portal roughly 2 weeks ago. Arkansas, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Kansas, DePaul, Louisville, Oregon, Michigan, Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Oklahoma State, Butler, and Washington State were the schools to reportedly reach out in the first 24 hours.

Out of Yspi Prep Academy in Michigan, Bates was rated 5-stars, the No. 1 small forward and No. 5 player overall nationally in the class of 2021 on the 247Sports Composite. He pledged to Michigan State on June 29, 2020, but decommitted on April 30, 2021. Bates landed at Memphis on July 1, 2021.

This past season, Bates played in 18 games. He posted averages of 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 9.7 points on 38.6% field-goal shooting over 23.4 minutes per game.
