Former Michigan basketball coach John Beilein was recently inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame. He joined Andy Katz of the B1G Network to talk about it, and the path he took to get there.
Beilein coached at Michigan from 2007-2019 before accepting a head coaching job with the Cleveland Cavaliers. While at Ann Arbor, he lead the Wolverines to a 278-150 record and 9 NCAA Tournament appearances. He also won the B1G tournament 4 times during his tenure.
Here’s what he had to say his path to the hall of fame after leaving West Virginia for Michigan in 2007:
“What I hoped really is that I could make it and that I wouldn’t get fired,” said Beilein. “I was trying to survive. And hopefully within those first 5 years was just to make the NCAA Tournament, because they hadn’t been in so long. Didn’t have great facilities, but the administration got behind it all. Michigan basketball was able to take off and be at the top where it belongs, and it still is.”
“@umichbball was able to take off and be at the top where it belongs, and still is.”@JohnBeilein was named to the @CBHOF Wednesday, and he joined @TheAndyKatz to chat about his HOF path.
