Minnesota basketball forward Isaiah Ihnen will miss the upcoming 2022-2023 season due to a knee injury, head coach Ben Johnson announced.
The season-ending injury took place in practice last week and Ihnen will undergo surgery. Ihnen was coming off of a previous left knee injury that cost him the entire 2021-2022 season. He injured the same knee in last week’s practice.

Ihnen last played in March 2021 during the B1G Tournament. In the 2020-2021 season, Ihnen averaged 2.8 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Golden Gophers.
This was the 2nd player who will miss the entire season for Minnesota. In June, Minnesota forward Parker Fox suffered a season-ending right knee injury in practice. Minnesota will have to overcome losing two key forwards.

Johnson spoke about the latest loss for his team in a statement:
“It’s disappointing to see Isaiah go through this after he worked hard to get back on the court this year and made significant strides to his game this summer,” Johnson said. “We will be with him every step of the way in his road to recovery.”
Minnesota finished last season with a 13-17 overall record and a 4-16 conference record. With Ihnen and Fox out for the season, it will be difficult for the team to have a bounce back season.
