Casey Thompson is slated to be under center for the Cornhuskers this fall. But, Thompson says that it’s going to take more than his efforts, and the efforts of Travis Vokolek, for Nebraska to have a winning season.
Thompson said it’s important for the offense to find leaders and voices for the unit, something that is lacking right now in camp.
"Quite honestly, we need more guys to speak up on offense," Nebraska QB Casey Thompson said after the 12th practice of camp today. He said the defense has done a better job of leading from within. It was evident today. "We're going to have to push together," he said.

Thompson also said he’s back to throwing the ball better since having an offseason procedure on his throwing thumb. Those lingering issues are no more.

Mark Whipple, Nebraska’s new offensive coordinator, was critical of Wednesday’s offensive performance but was quick to dismiss Wednesday’s practice as an anomaly. Whipple also updated the QB battle and said that Thompson is currently splitting first-team reps in camp.
Thompson himself is a new piece of the Nebraska puzzle, having transferred from Texas. At Texas, Thompson threw for 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns (first in the Big 12) and 9 interceptions in the 2021 season. He also recorded a program-record 6 touchdowns in a loss to Kansas and the most games with 5+ touchdowns in Texas history.
Will all the new pieces of the Nebraska offense work? That’s one puzzle we can’t wait to see put together. Nebraska opens against rivals Northwestern on Aug. 27.
