Scott Frost knew it was going to come up in the press conference. He was ready for it, and he made sure to set the record straight.
Concerning the kickoff debacle from the second half of Nebraska’s Week 1 win, Frost claimed he did not call for another onside kick after calling for one against Northwestern in Week 0. While the kick was a short one recovered by North Dakota, Frost said it was a designed squib kick.
The issue this time around came from execution – not from the playcall – according to Frost:
Scott Frost on the squib: “We have the smartest football fans in America and I want them all to know that was not an onside kick.”

Fortunately, the kick this time around did not produce any swing in momentum. Nebraska got a stop and was able to maintain control of the game heading through the second half.
