ESPN’s College Football Power Index updated earlier this week, giving the No. 1 spot to the Ohio State Buckeyes. In total, 4 B1G teams cracked the top 25: OSU, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.
But which of these teams has the best shot at winning the B1G, according to the numbers? Where do the rest of the teams in the B1G stand? According to ESPN, the Buckeyes have a 71% chance of winning the conference and a 82% chance of reaching the CFP.
Here’s every other team and their respective chances of winning the conference, according to this metric:
- Ohio State: 71.2% chance
- Michigan: 14.3% chance
- Wisconsin: 5.9% chance
- Penn State: 4.6% chance
- Iowa: 1.6% chance
- Minnesota: .9% chance
- Illinois: .7% chance
- Purdue: .3% chance
- Michigan State: .2% chance
- Nebraska: .1% chance
- Maryland, Northwestern, Rutgers, Indiana: 0% chance
The FPI also gives Penn State a 10.7% chance to reach the CFP and Michigan a 25.9% chance, essentially saying they’ll go undefeated except for The Game.
Wisconsin was given the best chance at winning the B1G West at 47.9%. ESPN also gives Wisconsin a 1% chance of making the CFP field. Have to start somewhere!
