Nebraska is preparing for the season opener against Minnesota, and the Huskers unveiled the program’s Blackshirts recipients Monday morning.
With just days to go before the trip to Minnesota, the Huskers revealed 11 players received the Blackshirt honor to open the season. A number of players to receive a single-digit number also received Blackshirts to begin the season.
Here is the group of Blackshirts per Nebraska:

Included in the Blackshirts are DL Nash Hutmacher, DB Isaac Gifford, LB Luke Reimer, LB John Bullock, DB Quinton Newsome, DB DeShon Singleton and DL Ty Robinson. DB Omar Brown, LB Chief Borders, DL Blaise Gunnerson and DB Malcolm Hartzog appear to be the other recipients of the Blackshirts.
The honor of the Blackshirts is a longstanding tradition at Nebraska, one that new head coach Matt Rhule is carrying on in his first season with the program. Rhule has also brought a number of new traditions into the program as the Huskers set to embark on the 2023 season.
Fans will get their first look at the new Huskers on Thursday night when they travel to face Minnesota in the season opener. Kickoff for that game is set for 8 pm ET on FOX.
