Kirk Herbstreit has clapped back at Danny Kanell for some interesting comments made regarding the College Football Playoff.
Sunday, after the semifinal field was set, Kanell — a well known SEC basher –went on a rather lengthy Twitter rant, bashing the selection committee’s decision to include two SEC teams by taking Alabama over Ohio State for the final spot.
During that rant, Kanell referred to the CFP as the “Made For TV Ratings Invitational,” saying ESPN is benefitting greatly from the teams competing in the Final Four (which is a really stupid statement, because everyone is going to tune in anyway).
Herbstreit wasn’t a fan of Kanell’s comments and called him out on it Monday morning.
Dude..what has happened to you?? Seriously. You’re a good guy—and I get the whole “anti SEC guy” you’ve created, but you think ESPN wouldn’t LOVE to have Ohio St in this??? They’re a RATINGS BONANZA!! Cmon dude!! You’re better than that!!! https://t.co/646E9Xbwq6

So your 2017 Made For TV Ratings Invitational will be:
1. Clemson vs 4. Bama
2. Oklahoma vs 3. Georgia

Including Ohio State in the Playoff would’ve probably benefited ESPN a little more, as it would’ve included the Midwest in the picture, so Kanell’s statement doesn’t have much foundation.
While B1G fans love several points that Kanell makes as an SEC hater, this one doesn’t really make much sense. Herbstreit pointed that out.
